Just how light, or heavy, is an all-NJS keirin track bike build?
We had often wondered this, and finally had a chance to find out. As you may know there are no carbon parts in Japanese keirin racing, and titanium is hardly used, either, so this is a proper old-school track bike, although everything you see on it is available new today.
Actually you can buy everything here from tracksupermarket.com or at our Osaka store: Giracha.
We could have started with a lighter frame by going with something tiny, but we wanted to use a frame that is a pretty average size for Japanese pro track racers. This Kiyo is about a 52cm frame with a 53cm top tube. No drillium here either, or cut seat posts or stems. The only ‘chopped’ part was the handlebar, which has about 3cm cut off each end to avoid knee-strike, a common mod for pro racers in Japan.
Anyway it was a beautiful build and came in at 6.90kg.
